BCANY’S First Service Game

Under the guidance of Ogdensburg FA Coach (and BCANY Board member) Bill Merna, BCANY’S first Service Game was held in December.  The game between Ogdensburg and Indian River was a test run of what a BCANY Service Game might entail.  BCANY is going to hold Service Games based on the very successful Endowment Games in North Carolina and Foundation Games in Ohio.

The Ogdensburg FA school gave permission to collect donations and have a 50-50 at the game. On Wednesday the captains read what the teams was doing on the daily school announcements over the intercom. On Thursday and Friday the players manned a table outside the cafeteria that had informational posters on the Wounded Warrior Project. In 2 days they collected $153 from students and staff.
The game was Saturday – posters were by the door and a donation jar was displayed. Another $105 was taken in there. There was a good crowd at the game against Indian River. Their district is on the edge of Fort Drum and has many residents in the military. The 50-50 raffle took in $333 so we netted $166.50. The total was $424.50 – this has been sent to the Wounded Warrior Project.

Ogdensburg finished the Service game by volunteering at the local Am-Vets. They prepare, serve, and distribute to shut-ins a Christmas dinner. The local paper had some nice articles about the Service Game.
